There are numerous options for gym flooring for both home and commercial applications. Rubber flooring is offered in different thickness, different colors, and different ways to apply it to your floor.
Thickness - It never hurts to have the rubber floor as thick as possible. Having too thin of a rubber floor can cause problems. If the mat is too thin it will not protect the floor or the equipment. Also, a thin material which ends up being lightweight typically will move around and cause a lot of frustration.
Colors - Having colors speckled into the rubber floor not only gives it a nice look but more importantly it hides dust, dirt and seams. You can add a single color or multiple colors into the flooring. A solid black floor will show every footprint, fuzzball, and dirt particle.
Application - Rubber flooring is typically offered in three different forms:
Large size rectangular mats
Smaller Interlocking tiles
Rolled flooring
The rectangular mats and interlocking tiles can just be laid on the subfloor without any glue or adhesive. Rolled flooring will need to be glued down because it is typically a thin material. Rolled flooring is nice because it shows the least amount of seams. The drawbacks of rolled floors is that they are the most thin of any floor and you have to glue the material down.
